Introducing the Religious Liberty Project 2016 All Poles Matter prototype.
Like many around the nation, we’re taking a stand to raise awareness to the systemic issue of unarmed black men being shot and killed by cops.
The all black, 6-foot-tall Festivus-inspired pole will contain the names of all unarmed black men killed by police in 2016. Additionally, a distressed black and white American flag will be flown at half-mast, lowered in protest to this senseless slaughter. Kneeling at the base is the number 7, painted in the colors of the San Fransisco 49ers, signaling our support for those who peacefully and silently protest.
We note in 2015,
- Police killed at least 102 unarmed black people in 2015, nearly twice each week
- 37% of unarmed people killed by police were black in 2015 despite black people being only 13% of the U.S. population
- Unarmed black people were killed at 5x the rate of unarmed whites in 2015
The Religious Liberty Project will be submitting applications to all 50 US state capitols, seeking permission to erect these poles. Our first stop will be Tallahassee, Florida and several local South Florida municipalities.
