Religious symbols at issue in Bergenfield and New Milford as holidays near

To some, it’s simply a beautiful sign of the season.

To others, it’s an unmistakably religious symbol that carries with it constitutional ramifications.

A 9-foot-tall menorah will soon be erected on the front lawn of the borough hall in New Milford, if it hasn’t already been.

Those who supported that action said it would be a suitable addition to the borough’s other lawn display, a towering evergreen, strung with hundreds of lights.

But, the issue of church and state may come into play.
